How to Wash a Vera Bradley Backpack Change
Here are a few easy instructions on how to wash a Vera Bradley backpack properly if it unintentionally has stains or just looks dirty and greasy.
Vera Bradley bags are susceptible to getting dusty and stained over time, just like any other pack. Life is lived in this manner.
However, cleaning your Vera Bradley bag requires special caution because using harsh chemicals can damage your priceless bag.
Read this comprehensive advice if you’re unsure how to wash a Vera Bradley backpack to give your bag back its once-shiny appearance.
To keep your “pack” as spotless and gorgeous as the day you bought it home, I’ve devised a straightforward set of instructions.
How To Wash A Vera Bradley Backpack
Use these thorough, step-by-step instructions to wash a Vera Bradley bag. Let’s get going!
Step 1: Read the care instructions.
First things first: check your bag to see if there is a tag inside that contains any washing instructions (or doesn’t, as the case may be!).
My Vera Bradley bag didn’t have a tag that I can recall seeing. If there aren’t any, don’t worry—it just means you may continue to the next phase!
Don’t do it if your bag specifies that it cannot be machine-washed.
Step 2: Remove all items.
Everything, indeed! Open all of the interior pockets, and make sure you look in every crevice.
Avoid washing some cosmetics or a box of Kleenex by mistake since you can end up with a mess that is even worse to clean up!
To get rid of any crumbs or other small pieces before everything gets wet, it could be worthwhile to turn the bag inside out and shake it vigorously somewhere outside — or over the trash can if you don’t have access to an outdoor space.
Step 3: If possible, remove the solid base
Check the very bottom of your bag after you’ve opened it. You might want to get rid of any cardboard or plastic inserts that are there to hold things upright.
Remember that not all bags include a slot for the cardboard to be removed! The base of mine is not made of cardboard.
Do not put the backpack in the laundry if you are unable to remove it beforehand. Otherwise, you risk creating a mushy mess that will be difficult to clean up without damaging your lovely backpack.
4. Insert the pillowcase.
Although this procedure is optional, it is unquestionably worthwhile to protect your priceless Bradley backpack.
Before putting your bag in the washing machine, grab a simple pillowcase; white is better so you can prevent colors from bleed.
This will prevent your bag’s delicate components from rubbing up against the washing machine’s metal drum and will also prevent anything from being tangled up or tarnished while the cycle is running.
Step 5: Cold Wash Only
You should only ever wash your bag in the washing machine on a gentle cycle, at the coldest temperature feasible, using non-chlorine bleach if necessary, according to the instructions on the Vera Bradley website.
Select the slow spin option if it is available.
Many people would also advise substituting white vinegar for detergent because it would work to remove stains and neutralize any unpleasant scents without causing any damage to the backpack’s sensitive components.
Step 6: Air Dry
Never use the dryer with your Vera Bradley bags! Your VB should only ever be air dried; this can be done either outside on a clothesline or inside, dripping subtly over a sink on a coat hanger or another sturdy object.
The design of your bag can quickly fade or tarnish when exposed to extreme temperatures, especially with older vintage Vera bags (even just sitting in the sun for a few hours).
Simply put, the quickness or convenience is not worth it. Before you insert anything or use it once more, make sure it is absolutely and completely bone dry.
Just in case, it might be prudent to leave it hanging there overnight; you wouldn’t want any of your possessions to suffer damage from any leftover moisture.
Step 7: Increase Your Future Protection (Optional)
Get some Scotchgard fabric spray or something comparable if you want to give your backpack an additional layer of protection, even though you don’t strictly need to.
You might not need to wash it as frequently or at all in the future thanks to this.
Unfortunately, it isn’t fully infallible, but compared to other protectors, it reduces how deeply dirt, dust, and stains may enter the fabric, making cleanup as easy as rubbing with a clean, damp cloth.
Step 8: Remember To Replace The Sleeve (If You Removed It!)
If you removed the cardboard or plastic sleeve from the bottom of the bag, don’t forget to replace it.
Otherwise, it might lose its shape and become challenging to use, which would undermine the purpose of having a lovely bag!
Then shake it vigorously to get rid of any wrinkles from the wash. Thanks to the additional protection provided by the Scotchgard we added, your lovely VB back now looks as good as new, if not better.
